A: No it wasn’t my first board. My friend and I were ’90s skaters for Halloween one year and Ron Whaley hooked us up with old boards. We got the whole set up, huge Ben Davis pants cut into shants, duct tap half cabs, XXXL polo tees, and tiny wheels. It was so fun skating like we were in the ’90s we just ran it for a couple weeks. Q&A From Matchull, Q: Marc, your part in Pretty Sweet was fucking tight, I was especially hyped on the fact that you chose David Bowies “Five Years” for your song. Did you choose it because you only had five years in between Fully Flared and Pretty Sweet ? A: Man, I’m stoked you dig the part. Truly. About the song, it was in a list of about 50 or so songs I gave Rick and Mike and Ty to check out as possible tracks for the video. What’s weird is that I wanted to use that song back in 1996 for a part, but I never had anything that worked for it. Rick sent me a screenshot of the track when he was listening to it, and we just went from there. It’s cool that it came together like this, all these years later. I wasn’t exactly thinking about a song for my part, specifically, because I didn’t know what footage I had at the time. It was just in there. Q: For Carroll, recently I have been rewatching the early Girl and Chocolate videos as sort of a warm-up for “Pretty Sweet.” And watching “Goldfish” I noticed that there was almost no ankle-high curb skating and it seemed to me that the standard for the height of ledges had been raised somewhat if you compare it to other videos that were put out in the beginning of the 90s. It’s well known how Pat Duffy’s video parts from that era set new standards for rail skating but were there also certain skaters or videos that forced tech skaters to start jumping onto taller ledges?
A: I think Tim Gavin was going for quite the opposite in Goldfish when he skated a lower than ankle high double sided curb. Follow the double yellow line.—Carroll

Q: Here is one for Ty. What came first, the Fully Flared intro or the song for the Fully Flared intro? Almost seems too perfect to not know what song you were planning on using.
A: We didn’t talk about what music we were going to use for it until the second day of the intro shoot. Spike wanted to use The Who “Won’t Get Fooled Again” but I didn’t want to use it because Jamie had used that same song for the Zero Dying to Live intro. I listened to that M83 song the entire time I was filming FF and knew I wanted to use it in the video. Once we shot the intro I knew in my head that the song would work, but it wasn’t until I sat down and started editing the intro that it all lined up.—Ty

A: Funny thing is you’re about the tenth person to ask this very question, which trips me out. But here’s photo proof that it was designed this way. Case solved. —Aaron
